Fixed Dental Bridges - Fort Collins, CO

The Fort Collins office of Spring Creek Dental offers excellent quality fixed dental bridges and dental implants. A dental bridge is a fixed, or non-removable, appliance. This is a great option for replacing missing teeth, to maintain facial shape, to keep remaining teeth in position, to improve chewing and speaking ability, and to restore your smile. Sometimes patients will opt for a fixed dental bridge for improved performance over a removable partial denture. Dental implants are a superior option to a dental bridge when there is sufficient bone to support an implant.

Dr. Kaines or Dr. Cosper will discuss the best option for your unique dental needs as there are several types of bridges. The “traditional bridge” is most commonly used and is typically fabricated from porcelain fused to metal. This type of bridge consists of two crowns that cover two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth). The finished appliance permanently fills the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

Dental bridges are very durable and should last many years. They may need replacement or re-cementing due to normal wear or new decay.

Reasons for a Fixed Bridge:

  • Fill space of missing teeth.
  • Maintain facial shape.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance.

What is Involved in Getting a Fixed Bridge?

Obtaining a bridge usually necessitates two or more visits to Spring Creek Dental of Fort Collins. While the teeth are numb, Dr. Kaines or Dr. Cosper will prepare the two anchoring teeth for a crown by removing a portion of enamel. Next, a precise impression is taken that will be sent to a dental laboratory where the bridge will be made. A temporary bridge will be made and worn for several weeks while your bridge is made by the laboratory.

During your second visit, your dentist will carefully check, adjust and cement your permanent bridge to attain a proper fit. Your dentist may choose to temporarily cement your bridge to allow your teeth and tissue time to adapt to the new bridge. The new bridge will be permanently cemented at another appointment.

Once your bridge is completed, you will receive care instructions. With proper brushing, flossing, and regular visits to Spring Creek Dental, you can enhance the life of your new permanent bridge.
